so this is marriage… also white people like ultimate

well i have to say marriage is awesome. we get to blow off social functions to stay home, make dinner with all our fancy new kitchen gadgets and watch netflix until kingdom come. i know that sounds horrible to you youngsters but im an old lady and a homebody and to me it sounds like heaven. we get up early and watch meet the press and drink coffee and talk to our friends about how excited we are about the vice presidential debate. this is starting to sound like a post on a different blog… stuff white people like.

if you havent read this blog you need to start. especially now because they have a post about ultimate. heres a small highlight to entice you…

‘It is important to know that when you hear a white person saying “we should do some ultimate this weekend” or “I’m so pumped for ultimate,” they are talking about a sport and not an “ultimate solution”-type race war. Though a quick look at a field full of Ultimate Frisbee players might lead one to surmise that an ethnic cleansing has taken place.’

good stuff.

and speaking of the race issue.. now that we are a hip interracial married couple we are noticing a few things. mr. casual isnt too interested in ultimate. ‘yeah yeah its great…’ also after seeing an old family photo of the towns he declared ‘i need to start a new blog called ’so i married a white girl’.

ahem.

maybe i need to start a new blog category called ’so i married a latino (i originally wrote hispanic but apparently thats not the pc term…)’. lord knows the man wants to keep every weird piece of junk my mom tries to unload on us out of the basement of the cottage. heres a picture of our living room with our new america pillow. im trying to relax about it all. really.

we did it!

we did it!

were all married up! ill post some more when we get the photos from the photographer but here’s a pic from my new brother in law.. it went off without a hitch! it was so much fun but it went by in a flash. its tough to have all your favorite people around for 24 hours. you feel like you just cant spend enough time with everyone…

is spray on tan really the answer?

cakewell we’re less than two weeks away which i think means im supposed to give up sugar, alcohol, red meat and white flour and hope for best. i mean the dress fits fine and i think were mostly ready… but honestly ive spent a lot of time the last few weeks sitting on the couch watching the olympics and wondering which fake tanning option will make me looks the least round in the photos. heres a picture of me eating cake out of the pan in preparation for the main event.

i actually went to sephora to check out the mystic tan aerosol can thing they sell but quickly decided against it. i think you need to be a pro to apply that stuff. the last thing i need is to look like my skin is melting because of all the fakeness running off of me.

actually this weekend i spent drawing little maps of the cottage with where all the tables go and working out who sits where. sounds easy but.. it gets complicated quickly. especially with a different venue as the rain plan. i feel like all this planning has been going on for eternity. to be honest im almost as excited for it to all be over as i am for the party. its fun.. kind of. its also stressful… kind of. i know our engagement has been relatively short.. 6 months. i mean lots of people are engaged for a year or more and i have no idea how they do it. you must be on the verge of tears for the entire last month. i think the shorter the better. if i had it to do over we might go even shorter. with time against you the important things get taken care of the rest goes by the wayside. which is great. screw programs and bridesmaids with matching shoes. lifes too short and no one will remember them anyway.

warning.. more wedding blogging ahead

team romancewell were just over two months out and things are coming together. witness the groomsmens shoes that came in this week. team romance ftw! they cant front on my shoes though… some hot pink louboutins. and after buying no less than 4 dresses we finally found ‘the dress’ two weeks ago. its much more traditional bride-y than i envisioned but what can you do? its a lovely carolina herrera number. id post it because i am in love with it but the groom reads this blog so itll have to wait.

we spoke to the cake lady who is amazing. tasting cake should be our national passtime. also we hired a photographer im really excited about. check out her work here. im wondering whether the new dress will allow for the trackstanding photos in our wedding gear that we wanted….the rings are bought and the flowers are.. well flowering i guess. the invites went out today even so its official like. our calligrapher did an amazing job with the invites. you can see them here on her blog.

color board v.4as we try and use advanced calculus to decide how much beer to buy for the wedding i daydream about how this will all come off. im sort of envisioning it very preppy but in a ‘jcrew meets andre 3000′ kind of way. bright and modern but definitely a bit ghetto. hopefully the future mr. casual will get my name written in his fade for the wedding but well see…

now its on to fun stuff like picking out songs for the ceremony and our first dance. i kind of want to walk out of the chapel to something like the jackson five but nothings definite.. thoughts? heres our new color board with some revisions. still a work in progress but exciting nevertheless.

ok sorry ill stop.

blog it up

bikesim pretty sure this is a post about nothing but here it is anyway. so guess what? swimming is frickin hard! i went swimming for the first time tonight in preparation for the half triathlon in july with the cnd ladies and.. yeah. at least during the running part you can stop and walk if you are tired.. if you are beat and in the middle of the lake i don’t really know what you do. float? lets hope so. i hope there are some lifeguards. also i am going to try racing at the velodrome soon. which should be terrifying. i hope there are some lifeguards there too.

in other news.. ms. ultimate was in town for the last couple of weeks and it was wonderful. we went out on the town last weekend with the viking and t-brizzle.. just like the old days. drinks. dinner. ice cream. criticizing the outfits of everyone in lincoln park. seriously though.. we saw some lady wearing black and white leopard print shorts and black suade boots with fringe on them. this prompted our new category ’signs of the coming apocalypse.’ also in this category would be the appearance of an intermix on damen in wicker park. its getting dangerous out. fer realz. also we went and saw the ’sex and the city’ movie even against our better judgment. it was good but im glad we brought small pink cans of champagne.

the wedding is coming right up. best thing? we get to go taste cake this weekend. yeah cake. i love cake so much i want to take it behind the middle school and get it pregnant. um… anyway. its exciting. 3 months to go before im mrs. casual.

100 days

color board v.2So i realized today by reading some other girl’s bride blog that my wedding is exactly 100 days away. wild! i cant believe how much planning and money weddings take. i mean im sure this isnt a big revelation for those of you who are already hitched but good lord.. i didnt expect it. did you know there are support groups and websites for ‘post nuptial depression’ for when you realize the biggest party of your life is over? so i have that to look forward to…

did you also know the average american wedding costs 25k$?? thats completely rediculous. go feed an orphan for goodness sakes. we are doing our part to feed the slave labor that nike employs by getting custom dunks for the groomsmen.

but things are coming along. i know all you dudes reading this cant wait to see our color scheme so here it is. exciting stuff right? we are tying the knot at the town cottage on lake michigan which i know many of you have been to over the years. i wish we could just have mama town make an epic feast of spaghetti and meatballs and enchiladas. it would be fitting and yet.. i think we still will get a caterer.

outside of all this madness.. i havent been doing much. training for the half triathalon? not really. we did bike the drive last weekend which was early but fun. lots of 30 rock but no ultimate. i was the worst spring league teammate ever. but ill let ms. ulty post about beach since she back in town this week. yay!

big things poppin

this photo has nothing to do with anythinghey blog! how’re things? i guess its been a while.. a month? well i guess i’m a bit embarrassed. but honestly i haven’t had anything to blog about except love and romance and the total absurd money pit that is wedding planning. exciting yes. affordable? doubtful. poor papa town. at least i’m the only daughter. i’ll try not to post about wedding stuff but i can’t make any promises.

in other news.. guess who won paganello? bjorn. single handedly i might add.

this just in from our casual ultimate quality control : bjorn had a team. a team called scandal. who knew? i figured he just went out there by himself and ripped beach ultimate apart. either way i believe we can now say chicago is the home of the beach ultimate champions of the world.

the entire globe. think about it.

and in even other other news.. mr. brizzle and miss casual are breaking up their happy home. mr. brizzle has bought himself some real estate. a real home for slider which he so truly deserves.

and in other other other news… our own chicago son, mr. chuckworth townington, is headed to chicago. soon even. stay tuned because im sure shennanigans will ensue and we want you there.

okay thats it. i feel so much closer to you now blog. really. this time has been special.

edit: i expect all the people / events mentioned in this post to be blogged about by their respective casual ultimate staff memebers.
