Is it to late to chime in from China? I had no idea there was a forum and such....have to say that I'm not even deserved of being a casual ultimate lurker yet...but as long as China isn't banning your site Ill try to check in.
Brown Bear has it right with Mo Mega from Mr Lif. What a fucking incredible album. fucking incredible.
I have to recommend my new favorites 'Lonely China Day' (Beijing indie / atmospheric rock...think similar to sigur ros I guess....and if you haven't listened to sigur ros than add that to your list also). Even though the band is from Beijing you just missed them in Chicago earlier this month and they just left SXSW....they have videos on youtube and a myspace page if you are worried about finding the album stateside.
Also getting a lot of attention via my laptop: El-P "High Water" Azam Ali (hauntingly beautiful iranian vocalist) Vas (Azam Ali with an American percussionist) Buckethead "Colma" (a mellow, beautiful album he wrote while his mom was in the hospital) Gigi "Gigi" Ethiopian Vocalist - album has the classic world music sound Yuval Ron (essentially a middle eastern supergroup) Juno Reactor "Labyrinth" (Orchestral, tribal, electronic) Everything by the Roots (I'm a diehard fan but they have been out of my playlist for a while and they will be in Beijing in 5 days!)
Anarchy in the PRC, Brady
P.S. Hijacking this thread to say Peggy and I have our blogs and photos up at www.meisenwang.com
the avril lavigne-lil mama remix that on posted here (http://www.money-cash-hos.com/) right now. lil mama is the new lady sovereign...but better...and the whole attitude thing doesn't seem so forced.
also, yes, "stronger" the kanye west daft punk remix. i can't find where the audio file is posted right now (other than my itunes), sorry people. i'm sure it's on the internet somewhere.
Dang I've been listening to that Kanye song for three days straight ( i love youtube ) Also listening to John Legend , Kings Of Convenience Versus album and the Rotting Pinata album by Sponge.
if anyone knows a country western song about your dog dying, your bike getting dented and subletting your apartment, let me know. if not and you'd like to record one, i've prepared some lyrics.
common's new album..finding forever. not the greatest critical reviews, but i liked it plenty. i just listened to radiohead's kid a again last night...yeah 2001, good fucking music in a good fucking year.
Big news: MIA - Kala. This is the best album I've heard in awhile. Mix of world music sped up to a synthesizer beat with this little Sri Lankan girl kicking your face in. Awesome.
Vijay. If you didn't here the previous MIA you should grab that as well. Ill have to hear the new one, how many times can I listen to it on a cross world plane ride?
"the instrumental" by Lupe Fiasco off of last year's stellar "food and liquor". How the fuck did I not listed to this song to death already? I sure am trying to do it now. Maybe not everyone will agree, but to me this is one of the best hip hop songs I have heard in years and years. How can one rap 'box' (not to mention words that are twisted into box like 'locks') so many times and make it sound so tight?
