The current Favorite Eats discussion made me think of old favorite eats that are with us no longer, or have fallen out of favor. Of course, the best example I can think of is Darwins. RIP. Man, that place was awesome. Back when I used to cross the highway to see people, we'd go at least once a week, and that'd be the second or third trip for BK, who lived down the street and around the corner. Turbodog on tap. Nintendo at the bar. Sweet potato fries and food served up on weird plates. Probably my first experience with a gastropub.

Another would be Abril, a mexican place up in Logan square. That one's reaching. But good stuff there, until friends of friends had a too close encounter with some cockroaches and never went back. Except I did, because no one told me. But since I heard that story, never been back.

ahhh turbodog. i bought a six pack two days ago, but it's just not the same as draft. dag Darwins, dag.

general note - there need to be more bars in chicago with nintendo. where else can you use the Hudson Hawk pick-up line, "will you play nintendo with me?" 60% of the time, it works every time.

darwin's had to go; progress marches on. i'm starving though. when is bryan going to open a lunch restaurant? posts on the new blog (second best blog name in the world) suggest he wants to, but i haven't heard any plans in real life. and real life is what counts. real life and cute bunnies.

It's scary to open a restaurant. Seriously. Especially when you have no experience.

okay so its not 'eats' technically but after getting verbally assaulted last night by some southside douche in a suit on a tuesday at gold star, that place is dead to me. the bartender stood right by while these two guys harrassed us and didnt say a thing. i finally had to leave and didnt even get to finish my fat tire.

    dead to me.
